Citelift compared with Outrank

Updated · first published 6 September 2026

We bought an Outrank trial on 6 September 2026, connected it to a demo Shopify store we control, and took one article through catalogue sync, planning, generation, AI revision, export and Shopify delivery. The Shopify setup, catalogue grounding, delivery state and reporting rows record that run. Price, volume, backlinks and publishing destinations come from Outrank’s official pages checked on 25 September 2026. Each row carries its own evidence label and date. It is a capable product. The decision is whether you need a broad publishing and backlink platform or a Shopify workflow built around catalog checks and article-attributed orders.

The short answer

Pick Outrank if you publish to more than one kind of site, want about one article a day for a flat monthly fee, and are comfortable with a backlink system that runs on credits you earn by linking to other customers. Pick Citelift if you run one Shopify store and want articles planned from your own catalog, checked before they go live, and tied to the orders they bring in.

When we checked on 25 September 2026, Outrank's base plan was $99 a month or $999 a year for 30 articles, and it reached Shopify through a custom app the store owner creates. Citelift connects through its own app flow. It is new, listed on the Shopify App Store since 5 October 2026, and its prices are on the pricing page.

BacklinksThe $99 base plan includes automated backlink building: Outrank places links to your site inside relevant articles on other blogs it writes for, and you earn the credits by hosting relevant links in your own. Backlink Premium ($199), Scale ($899) and Enterprise ($1,899) add monthly credits, and a $500 one-time directory-submission service is sold separately.Source: vendor documentation, 25 September 2026Citelift does not give merchants access to a backlink exchange, marketplace, paid placement or directory-submission product. Growth includes one shareable resource a month with manual outreach; that is a manually fulfilled deliverable and does not guarantee a backlink.
Where it publishesOutrank’s official integrations page lists ten publishing destinations, including Shopify. Rows marked Observed come from one paid Outrank trial on 6 September 2026, on a demo Shopify store we own. They cover only the setup, catalogue-grounded article, Shopify delivery state and measurement surfaces we actually inspected. Rows marked Vendor come from Outrank’s official pricing, agency, integration and documentation pages checked on 25 September 2026; we did not test the other destinations or paid add-ons. The account, invoices and captures stay private. Products change, and if a line here has gone out of date, tell us and it gets corrected.

What we saw when we ran it

We paid for an Outrank trial on 6 September 2026 and connected it to a demo Shopify store we own. The connection went through Shopify's developer dashboard: create an app, choose scopes, release a version, install it, then copy the client ID and secret back into Outrank. It works, but it asks the store owner to create and manage a custom app, and that app stays in the store until someone removes it.

The writing was better grounded than we expected. The test article used the demo store's product names, sizes and product URLs, and when we asked for a targeted revision those details survived it. That matters, because a wrong size or material in a published article is an error your customers read.

The finding we would check first on your own store is the publishing state. We had set the Shopify connection to save articles as drafts, and Shopify held the article as Hidden, as that setting should. Outrank's history still marked it Published and its dashboard said it was live on the site. That is one run on one store on one date, and it may have been fixed since. It is still the reason to open the storefront URL in a signed-out browser after any tool says an article is live.

On measurement, we opened the reporting surfaces the trial gave us: Domain Rating, backlink activity, article counts and Search Console data. We did not find a view that tied articles to orders or showed which AI answers cited the store.

Where the monthly cost comes from

Outrank's headline is simple: $99 for 30 articles. The total depends on what you add. Using the prices on its pricing page on 25 September 2026, one site at 60 articles a month is $184, and at 90 articles it is $259. Add Premium Images and those become $233 and $308. The Human Curated Service, where editors review every article, is $1,399 a month on top. That arithmetic is ours; confirm the checkout before paying.

Citelift prices per store with no add-ons. The Starter, Core and Growth amounts on the pricing page are read from the same plan ladder Shopify bills, and they include the monthly or weekly AI-answer checks. The trade-off is volume: Citelift's weekly ceilings are four, seven and fourteen articles, so Starter publishes fewer articles a month than Outrank's base plan. If raw article count is the goal, Outrank gives you more for the money.

How the backlink model differs

Outrank's pricing FAQ describes the base plan's backlinks this way: it places links to your site inside relevant articles on other blogs, and you earn the credits that pay for them by hosting relevant links in your own articles. The paid backlink plans add credits on top. Some merchants want exactly that. Others would rather not have outbound links to strangers' sites appear inside their product guides.

Before turning it on, read the link-spam section of Google's spam policies, which lists excessive link exchanges and links placed purely for cross-linking. Whether any particular placement crosses that line depends on the details, and we have not audited Outrank's network. Decide with Google's wording in front of you rather than a vendor's summary.

Citelift has no link exchange, marketplace or paid placement. Growth includes one shareable resource a month with manual outreach, and it does not guarantee a link. If building domain authority quickly is your priority, that is a real gap.

What Citelift will not do for you

Citelift publishes to a Shopify blog, not to WordPress, Webflow, Ghost or Notion. A WooCommerce connector exists in a private beta and is not open to public sign-up. It has been on the Shopify App Store only since 5 October 2026, it had no public reviews when we checked on 9 October 2026, and it has no merchant case studies to show you. Its automated checks can hold a draft for review, which means some weeks you publish fewer articles than the ceiling. If any of those is a deal-breaker, Outrank covers more of those needs today.

Reproduce the workflow check on your own store

Our 6 September test followed one demo article through generation, a targeted revision, export and Shopify delivery. It tested workflow behavior, not organic growth or customer revenue. The delivery-state finding is specific to that run, where the connection was set to save drafts: the article arrived in Shopify as a hidden draft while Outrank labelled it published. It is not a claim that Outrank fails to publish.

  1. Price the workflow you would actually buy: publishing destinations, monthly article requirement, active sites, review labor and any image or backlink add-ons. Compare that total with Citelift’s full plan terms.
  2. Choose a product with known dimensions, materials or ingredients. Record those facts before generation so both drafts face the same source material.
  3. Generate a draft and check product names, specifications and URLs against the catalog. In our test, Outrank preserved catalog details through a targeted revision.
  4. If you choose to publish, compare the app status with Shopify visibility and the storefront URL. A delivered but hidden article is still a draft from a shopper’s perspective.
  5. Compare the reports you can actually inspect. Article counts, search clicks, observed AI mentions and attributed orders are different measures.

What you would buy with Citelift

One subscription covers one Shopify store. Connect for free, choose a plan on Citelift and approve the charge in Shopify. An eligible store’s seven-day trial starts at that approval. AI generation begins after approval; review your brand, plan and first draft before completing setup.

Current monthly Citelift plans and limits
PlanMonthly USDPublishing ceilingMeasurement and review
Starter$49Up to 4 per rolling weekAI checks monthly. Automated publishing checks; no optional approval hold or Search Console connection.
Core$99Up to 7 per rolling weekAI checks weekly. Optional approval hold and eligible Search Console connection.
Growth$199Up to 14 per rolling weekAI checks weekly. Optional approval hold and eligible Search Console connection.

Failed checks can hold drafts on every plan. Search Console needs a matching verified property and available data. AI checks are samples of answers, and order attribution assigns credit using available Shopify journey data. Neither establishes incremental sales or guarantees rankings. See annual prices and full plan terms.

Our 17-page product-information pilot shows why source facts need manual review: a simple HTML extraction missed care instructions that browser review recovered on three pages. This research did not measure either tool’s output or growth.

Bring the same evidence to either trial

  1. Save a product URL, its materials or ingredients, its size or quantity, and its care or use instructions. Resolve missing facts before asking a writer to use them.
  2. Choose one buyer question. Compare both drafts against that same fact sheet, including product links and unsupported claims.
  3. Record review time and any corrections. If you authorize publication, open the storefront URL while signed out and check Shopify’s visibility state.
  4. Keep a dated baseline of search clicks, observed AI answers and attributed orders. Record “not available” separately from a measured zero.

Who should pick Outrank

Pick Outrank if you need several publishing destinations or want merchant access to its backlink and directory products. Price the sites and add-ons you need, and include the Shopify custom-app setup in your trial check.

  • You publish to WordPress, Webflow, Ghost or several client sites as well as Shopify.
  • You want about 30 articles a month for one flat fee and are happy to review them yourself.
  • You want a backlink programme included, and you have read how its credits are earned.
  • You manage several sites and would use the multi-site discounts.

Who should pick Citelift

Pick Citelift if you have one Shopify store and want catalog checks, explicit held and live states, and orders credited to each article under a stated attribution rule. Growth’s authority resource is fulfilled manually rather than through a merchant backlink exchange.

  • You have one Shopify store and want articles planned from its catalog and buyer questions.
  • You want a draft held when a product fact, link or claim fails a check, rather than published anyway.
  • You want draft, scheduled, live and held states that match what Shopify is actually serving.
  • You want orders credited to the article that sent the shopper, under a stated seven-day rule.

Switching between Outrank and Citelift

Your published articles live in Shopify either way, so switching is mostly about not breaking URLs, not publishing the same topic twice and removing access you no longer use.

  1. Export a list of every blog article from Shopify admin with its URL, visibility and publish date. This is your baseline and your duplicate-topic list.
  2. Open a sample of those URLs signed out and confirm they are visible. Fix any that a dashboard called live but Shopify has hidden.
  3. Turn off automatic publishing in the tool you are leaving before the new one starts, so two schedulers are never writing to the same blog.
  4. Keep old article URLs. If you retire a post, redirect it to the closest current article or collection in Shopify's URL redirects rather than deleting it.
  5. Search your article HTML for links added by a backlink exchange and decide whether to keep each one. We have not tested what happens to those links after an Outrank cancellation.
  6. After cancelling Outrank, uninstall the custom app you created for it in Shopify so its credentials stop working.
  7. Note a dated Search Console baseline for the blog before the switch, so you can tell a real change from seasonal noise afterwards.

Questions

Is Outrank cheaper than Citelift?

Per article, usually yes. Outrank's base plan was $99 a month for 30 articles on 25 September 2026. Citelift's prices are on its pricing page, read from the same plan ladder Shopify bills, and its weekly ceilings are lower. Compare the total for the volume, add-ons and review time you would actually use.

Does Outrank work with Shopify?

Yes. Its documentation describes a custom app that the store owner creates in Shopify's developer dashboard, with four content and product scopes and a client ID and secret copied into Outrank. Articles can publish immediately or as drafts.

Can Citelift publish to WordPress or Webflow?

No. Citelift publishes to a connected Shopify blog. A WooCommerce connector is in private beta and is not open to public sign-up. If you need several publishing destinations, Outrank covers far more of them.

Does Citelift build backlinks?

Not through an exchange or marketplace. The Growth plan includes one shareable resource a month with manual outreach, which is fulfilled by hand and does not guarantee a link.

Is Citelift on the Shopify App Store?

Yes. Citelift has been listed on the Shopify App Store since 5 October 2026, at apps.shopify.com/citelift. It had no App Store reviews when we checked on 9 October 2026. You can install it there or connect a store through Citelift's own sign-up flow.
